Natural Beauty Tips
- Get plenty of rest
Skin cells regenerate while you sleep, so it is important to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Getting an adequate amount of sleep will also enhance your mood, allow you cope more effectively with stress and help you to make better decisions.
- Stay hydrated
Like the cells of a plant, your skin cells need plenty of water to stay nourished and healthy. To help achieve well-hydrated glowing skin, drink at least 8 glasses of water each day, and avoid dehydrating beverages such as coffee, caffeinated tea and soft drinks.
- Protect against the elements
Your skin constantly battles the sun, wind, pollution and the drying effects of heat. And since it’s exposed every day, your face takes most of this abuse. Protect against the damaging effects of the sun by wearing a moisturizer with SPF 15 sun protection every day, even if you are not planning on being in direct sunlight. Remember that you can be exposed to the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays by driving in a car, sitting by a window and even on an overcast day. Don’t forget to pucker up! Keep your lips moist year-round by using a lip balm with a minimum of SPF 15. At night you can help boost your skin’s natural rejuvenating process by thoroughly cleansing your face and neck and applying a moisturizer.
- Nourish and flourish
Fill your plate with foods rich in antioxidants and your skin (and body) will thank you for it. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and healthy oils (such as olive oil) may protect your skin against aging. The best sources of antioxidants are green, yellow and orange vegetables, citrus fruits, berries and tomatoes.
- Invigorate – feels great
You can improve the natural radiance of your skin by gently exfoliating everyday. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells for brighter, smoother even skin, and increases blood flow to cells, bringing nourishment and stimulating regeneration. For a special treat visit the spa and get a relaxing and rejuvenating facial.
- Kick the habit
It is widely considered that smoking encourages the aging process. Cigarette smoke can accelerate wrinkles and visible signs of aging – not to mention the other negative effects that it has on your health and overall well-being.
- Tired eyes
They say that your eyes are the window to your soul. Perhaps that’s why our eyes really demonstrate lack of sleep and/or dehydration, in the form of dark circles and puffiness. It’s just one more reason to get plenty of rest and stay well hydrated. But when for times when that is just not possible, here are some tricks to help get rid of puffiness and conceal dark circles:
- Puffy eye remedies: Lie down for 15 minutes with either a slice of raw potato, apple or cucumber over your eyes. Potato also helps get rid of dark circles. OR – Relax with a couple of cooled teabags (try chamomile) over your eyelids for 10 minutes.
