Figure out how many calories your body burns in a day! This calculator will give you an estimate of your basal metabolic rate - the number of calories per day your body burns.

Always talk to your doctor before changing your diet or beginning a new exercise program. In general, if your goal is to lose weight by burning off excess body fat, aim to eat 500 fewer calories per day than your daily caloric needs, and maintain or increase your exercise activity. Never drop below 1200 calories per day unless you are on a medically supervised weight loss program.

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women. To use this calculator, you will need to know your weight, and your height.

In general, if your BMI is "Underweight" you may want to try to gain weight and build muscle for health. If your BMI is "Normal" you should continue to lead a healthy, active lifestyle and make the right food choices. If your BMI is "Overweight" or "Obese" you might consider adding more activity and exercise to your daily routine, and also try to make some healthier food choices to help reduce your weight. Also, you can use your BMI number to track your progress - even if your category doesn't change, you can still monitor your progress by watching how the number changes.
